AI search,
made clearer.
When a search engine answers a question, what part could your website play?
How does a page become part of an answer?
Google’s AI features can draw on search results to support generated answers with links. Its guidance says a supporting page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet. Meeting those conditions does not guarantee selection. Read Google’s explanation of AI features.
That is guidance about Google. It should not be treated as a complete description of every AI assistant, model or retrieval system.
What are entities and structured data?
An entity is an identifiable thing, such as your business or an author. Structured data describes those things and their relationships. Keep it consistent with visible information, and choose types that actually fit your content. Markup cannot turn an unsupported claim into evidence. Google’s structured data guidelines explain the quality requirements.
What should I work on first?
Our suggested starting point is a small content audit: find the questions your customers ask, check whether your site answers them, and identify the evidence you can contribute. Improve one important page and record the change. The page planner can help organise that work.
Where do experiments fit?
Experiments are useful when the question and limitations are clear. If you test how an assistant describes your business, record the date, exact question, system and available settings. Repeat observations before drawing conclusions. A single favourable answer is not a stable visibility measure.
What about llms.txt and answer cards?
We separate optional publishing formats from search requirements. See the specific answers on llms.txt, answer cards and JSON-LD, each with a source you can inspect.
